I’m going to say something that might be controversial. But hey! When has that ever stopped me?
Ready?
Don’t give underwear as a Christmas gift.
Or socks. Or any normal clothing item. Or toothpaste or deodorant for that matter.
Why you may ask?
I feel like those items are things you are going to buy anyway. Those are necessities. No one is excited to open up a package of underwear on Christmas morning. I would much rather there be 1-2 nice gifts under the tree then 10-15 with most of those necessity items.
I have no problem with cute pjs, a funny pair of boxers, a fun pair of socks, or even a silly toothbrush. Those aren’t items you would normally buy. They are still “needs” but they are fun and cute. I’m talking about that pack of Hanes or Fruit of the Loom or whatever brand.
Sometimes in our frugality we forget to keep things fun too. I firmly believe that Christmas and birthday gifts should be fun and not things that are the “norm.” You can still buy needs. My mom once got a vacuum cleaner for Christmas as she needed a new one. However, she wasn’t going to go buy it on her own any time soon and she was given a better model than she would have chosen for herself. It made it not the “norm.”
So there is Christmas tip #2. Look for the deals. Get cheaper gifts. But don’t forget that gifts are suppose to be fun!
