Budget-Friendly Valentine’s Day Date Ideas

February 7, 2018 by Julie Leave a Comment

Valentine's Day is coming up. Bring on the candlelight dinners at the best restaurant in town, dozen of red roses, high-end chocolate, and expensive jewelry that that lady in that commercial just gushed over. Right? Right??!!?! Wrong. When you're on a tight budget, those things just aren't practical or even possible. Many couples on a budget just choose to forgo celebrating all together. If you and your significant other want to celebrate Valentine's Day but don't have the money to drop on … [Read more...]

Why It’s Okay to Go to Bed Angry

August 20, 2015 by Julie 11 Comments

I'm sure you've all heard the marriage advice "never go to bed angry." I honestly find that to be pretty ridiculous advice. We used to follow it but all it really did was make us tired as we stayed up later to work things out...which made us more angry. It just didn't work. That is why we think it's okay to go to bed angry. Yes, I realize that this sounds crazy. But hear me out. Sometimes when you are trying to figure out a solution to a problem, your emotions are involved. This is … [Read more...]

Every Marriage is Different

May 7, 2015 by Julie 26 Comments

I want to talk today about something I don't talk about all that often: marriage. It's been on my mind recently. Have you ever found yourself questioning, "How in the world does their marriage work? I just don't understand how they ever ended up together." Admit it. You know you have. Then you felt guilty for judging another person like that. I experienced this myself recently. Then I wound up on the receiving end of it. Just a simple little comment but it stuck. Why are we quick to say that … [Read more...]

March 24, 2015 by Julie 15 Comments

Back in college when we were still dating, Matt and I would try to go out on a date about once a month. We saw each other every day as we lived in the same dorm building but going on an actual date was tough. We were starving college students after all. It was all about the frugal date night. We did a lot of free or cheap things like sub sandwiches at a local park (when it was warm enough) or go to a favorite restaurant, just for dessert. One of our favorite things to do was to go to Goodwill. … [Read more...]

How Having Less Strengthens My Marriage

October 2, 2014 by Julie 15 Comments

I'm really struggling with being content right now. There are so many things that I would like to upgrade. So much of our frugal life is making do with what we have. Right now I am really wanting: an iPhone a Macbook a new desk All nice tools to have. But not necessary. I have a phone. It may freeze and I don't like it, but I own it. I have a laptop. It is broken right now but I own it and it makes do. I have a desk. It really doesn't work for what I need but it is better than the … [Read more...]

Braggin’ On My Man

January 18, 2013 by Julie 2 Comments

You'll have to excuse me. I just need to brag on my husband a little bit right now. Yesterday morning I was walking through my living room and looked out my picture window. I was pleasant surprised by the sight. Here is what I saw. That just about made my day. :) It's amazing the simple acts of love can sometimes be the biggest ones. … [Read more...]
