It has been quite the week. For a school vacation week, I have been busier than when I’m working. I have had appointments every day this week.
Monday-regular baby appointment. Found out that I failed my 3 hour glucose tolerance test so I have gestational diabetes.
Tuesday- Came down with a cold. Had to go meet with a diabetes educator and get set up with a blood glucose meter. Found out that I barely have to change my diet at all. Basically, cut back some on sweets and fruit juice and add a little more protein and exercise. Starting to wonder if my test results got mixed up someone else’s at the lab though. My numbers have been borderline low all week. Not even remotely high. Even on the day I had juice and ice cream, I was under my goal number not just the acceptable high number.
Wednesday- Still sick. First childbirth classes. They are….interesting. Think they will be better when the teacher remembers that class is on Wednesday not Tuesday. She was 40 minutes late because in all her years in teaching these classes, this is the first time classes have been on Wednesday.
Only one other couple in our class. I can tell you that I am very thankful to have a husband that wants to be there and wants to learn all he can. He is so excited to be a daddy and wants to be as supportive as possible. Discovered that not all husbands are that way. So glad mine is.
Thursday- Yup. Still sick. And another ultrasound. I am happy to report that Abigail is no longer breeched. Head down, ready to go. And, 100% an Abigail. No more 80% like at 22 weeks. Beyond obvious now. Which is good since the nursery is already purple. 🙂
Today- Absolutely nothing finally. Which is good because I really need to kick this cold before my baby shower and evening out with friends tomorrow. Plans for today involve nothing much beyond the sofa. It’s been difficult to get better when I had to be somewhere every day this week. But had to take the appointments when I could get them. The doctor wanted the meeting with the diabetes educator and the ultrasound to be as soon as possible. So had to take the openings they had.
Even though I have been sick all week on top of being busy there are two bright sides.
1. This is only the 2nd cold I have had all winter. Compared to college and when I worked daycare and was sick about every 4-6 weeks, this has been a great cold and flu season for me.
2. It may stink to be pregnant and have a cold as there isn’t much I can take that helps but, as was pointed out by one of my lovely message board ladies (hi!), way better than being sick and having appointments with a baby to take care of. Or a toddler.
