Around here, schools are just starting to go back after summer break. So many things come with the going back to school time. New school supplies, back to the school year schedule, making new friends and seeing old friends, homework, and so much more. One thing that almost always happens is that those kids come home from school hungry! Of course, kids do seem to always be hungry. Most the time grabbing some crackers or some fruit is just fine but once in awhile it’s nice to give them something a little extra special. Here is a small collection of fun after school snacks.
Peanut Butter No-Bake Snack Balls
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom snack (isn’t this so cute?!)
Mickey Mouse Popcorn Munch (perfect for a special snack)
This next one isn’t so much a snack as a great way to organize snacks so your kids can get their own snacks.
Need fun after school snack ideas? Look no further! Click To TweetAs for for a typical snack, there are so many options. There’s always the classic cookie but I personally like to reserve cookies for dessert for finishing dinner (yes, bribery…because it works. 😉 ). Some great options can be: cheese, crackers (all different types), fruit (fresh or dried), peanut butter on a spoon, yogurt, muffins, pretzels, and so much more. When it comes to the after school snack you want to think of something that will satisfy their hungry after a long day at school but won’t fill them up too much so that they don’t want dinner. These is a fine balance in there. I worked for an after school program in college. Having a limited supply of the snack really helped keep the kids from filling up too much. A great way to do that at home is to use snack bags and portion larger bags into them. I even do that now with my three year old.
What are some of your kids’ favorite after school snacks?
Thanks for all the ideas! My after school snack strategy so far is to tell the kids to grab a piece of fruit. I really need to work after school snacks into my meal planning so they can have other options.
