Last year I knew that I wanted us to have matching Christmas stockings. Previously, I had a silver one and Matt had a John Deere one. Matched our personalities, yes. Each other, no.
Especially with Abby on the way, I wanted us to have ones that matched. I originally wanted some of those personalized embroidered ones like these:

But there was no way I could afford to get three for us then keep adding as we added to our family.
I found an awesome tutorial on Pintereston how to make your own Christmas stockings. So I went over to Marden’s after Christmas to get some marked-down Christmas flannel. (Note: Marden’s is a surplus/salvage store in Maine.)
I bought the same fabric in two different colors so that we aren’t all exactly the same. I then used some linen I already had to line the fabric. I bought 2 yards of each color so that I will have plenty in the following year to make more stockings as we have more children. I do plan on eventually taking them to a custom embroidery place and have our names on them. I suppose I could try to do it myself but it will look much nicer if they are done professionally.
Here is what they look like. I’m really pleased with the end result. I’m not the best sewer and don’t really enjoy it so I wasn’t so sure.
