I hope everyone had a great Christmas! We actually haven’t had ours yet. It’s been crazy.
Last Sunday, 12/22, we got a big ice storm here. Since Matt trims trees around the power lines, he was on storm duty all of last week, Christmas included. Abby and I had a little Christmas with my parents on Saturday but we haven’t done Santa, had the big meal, etc. We are waiting until Matt can be home.
Last night, we got hit with 14″ of snow. The coast got more ice. But not as bad as predicted. Last Monday we had over 100,000 without power in my state. Today, the highest I saw it hit was 10,000.
We’re hoping it doesn’t get much worse so Matt can be home for this weekend so we can finally celebrate Christmas together. Right now, we don’t know when he will be home. Abby keeps asking me, “Danta?” (Santa). I have to keep pretending Christmas isn’t here yet….which is hard when the rest of the world has moved on. Also hard as Abby misses her Daddy. He has to work 17 hour shifts, 5am-10pm. He did have Sunday off as they had most of the power restored from the ice storm damage and didn’t want the guys out in the snow. We had blizzard conditions here. It was nice to have him home for a little bit. And get his laundry done. 🙂
I’m not gonna lie. It was a rough week. Very rough. The last few months in general have been rough. I’m someone who rarely cries. I think I’ve been crying since Thanksgiving because it’s just so stressful right now. Life is hard with Matt not home and it has happened a lot recently. All the ice and snow removal as been on me on top of my regular house stuff. So nap times haven’t been break times for me but go outside and dig out times. We just can’t seem to get a break from the weather either. Every few days we get more snow or ice or sleet or something. Then to have Matt gone over Christmas…..that was hard to handle.
That’s what’s going on here. We hoping life will settle out soon. While it’s nice to have the storm pay come in to help cover some big expenses, it would be nicer to have Matt back home with us.
