I hope everyone had a great Christmas! We actually haven't had ours yet. It's been crazy.Last Sunday, 12/22, we got a big ice storm here. Since Matt trims trees around the power lines, he was on storm duty all of last week, Christmas included. Abby and I had a little Christmas with my parents on Saturday but we haven't done Santa, had the big meal, etc. We are waiting until Matt can be home.Last night, we got hit with 14" of snow. The coast got more ice. But not as bad as predicted. Last Monday … [Read more...]
Snow Storms and Baby Snuggles
It's one of those mornings that I just want to sit and snuggle and play with my baby. It's snowing. We did all most our grocery shopping yesterday and have no place to go today. Weatherman said 3-6" by Wednesday but we already have about 5" and it is still coming down. It has been a rough week to be a mommy. Abby went from teething to a cold then I got the cold then she got a fever. She is changing her napping schedule and has had two nights in a row where she woke up for a "snack" (nursing) … [Read more...]
The Aftermath
Made it through the hurricane just fine. No damage. Never even lost power. I did lose satellite for a little while but it was the middle of the night. I only knew because when Matt isn't home, I often fall asleep with the TV on. I woke up to some very insane wind and saw the TV had no signal. I've officially be a "storm widow" since 5am Monday. Matt has been out of state helping with the power restoration efforts. I'm really hoping he'll be home by Thanksgiving but given the size of the … [Read more...]
Weather Change = Attitude Adjustment
This morning I woke up to something I hadn't experienced in about a week if not a little longer. It was only 57 degrees at 7:30 this morning. Yay! That is almost a full 20 degrees less than it has been recently.Last night was so quiet. I didn't have to run the air conditioners just to keep the humidity level down. I could actually hear over the baby monitor without having to turn it all the way up.Today is dry and only in the 70s. Feels wonderful, especially with the breeze. After a rather rough … [Read more...]
April Fool’s… Trick or Treat?
This is has been quite a strange year. And it isn't over yet! And I'm only talking about the weather. We won't even get into everything else that has happened. We had a rather big storm on April 1st. Our April Fool's storm. Now, we have a Halloween weekend storm to go with it. This is my backyard this morning. A bit blurry as it was still snowing a little and windy. We have about 5 inches out there. Since they were predicting 5-10 inches and, being in the mountains, we always get the … [Read more...]
Survived the Storm…Mostly
Well, Irene hit here yesterday after she turned from a hurricane to a tropical storm. My area of the state usually doesn't get hurricanes since we are no where near the coast. Well, this one was different. We got hit pretty hard. The highest count of those without power ended up over 210,000 throughout the state. For a state with our population, that is a very high number. I lost power here but only for about 5 hours. We live on a main circuit with a nursing home down the road. So we tend to get … [Read more...]
