Things I Have Learned in the Past Three Weeks

Since I worked in daycare, mostly with infants, for a number of years I already had a fair amount of knowledge on babies and caring for them. But like I always said, it would be different when it is my own. That is still true. Here are a few things I have learned in the past three weeks (yes, she is three weeks old today! That was fast.).

1. There is enough time in a day to go online, read, spend time with the husband, clean, cook, etc. and still rest and get a nap. Some days are rougher than others but your life doesn’t just stop because you have a newborn.

2. SwaddleMe blankets aren’t lazy, they are genius! I know how to swaddle with a regular blanket but Miss Abigail should have been named Houdini. With the SwaddleMe, she can’t get her arms loose and knock her pacifier out. Which brings me to number three.

3. Pacifier= lifesaver. In every ultrasound we had, Abby was sucking her thumb. Little girl has to have that pacifier to go to sleep. Has to. Once she is asleep, she is fine. But if it isn’t around when she is tired, all hell breaks loose.

4. Sometimes, I cry louder than her. Can’t believe I just admitted that but its the truth. When she has been fussy and overly hungry the entire day, I just get worn out. (Thank God it doesn’t happen hardly ever). When overly tired and frustrated, I cry. Especially when trying to make dinner with a grumpy infant and Matt is at an appointment and can’t help. No fun.

5. My life is now lived in 2 hour increments. Trying to fit grocery shopping, etc. in between feedings can be a challenge.

6. It’s all worth it. After I can get a nap or a break or cry it out, I realize again how cute she is and how much I love her. There isn’t much better than a baby snuggle with your very own baby.
