I recently had a post on how having two children makes you completely insane. I think us moms do feel insane most the time. It just seems to go with the territory. Loud kids, lots of activities, not a lot of sleep, always being climbed on. But being a mom can be totally awesome as well. I know some days don’t feel that way but it’s true. Being a mom is a lot of work but it’s also pretty great too. Here are five reasons why.
No one thinks you’re strange for watching cartoons
It’s true. You totally get away with watching cartoons and no one even bats an eye. In fact, it’s expected that you know where Perry is or what the Mystery Mouskatool was that day. Personally, I even like Frozen (well, the first three times I saw it, anyway). It’s also great getting to relive your favorite childhood movies when you introduce them to your kids. Now you have a good excuse to watch them again!
Chicken nuggets and French fries
I totally used my child as an excuse to have tater tots and hot dogs a couple weeks ago. And it was amazing. You want kid food? Kids give you a great reason in indulge. Goldfish are such a fun snack. Pre-kids I didn’t really have those things around. Now I have a great reason. I had forgotten how good some kid foods are.
Baby/kid snuggles
Seriously, one of the best fringe benefits of being a mom. They don’t last very long but are definitely awesome. There is just something special about snuggling with one of your babies, even if that “baby” is now five or six. I love it when one of my kids just needs snuggles from their mama. The snuggle time doesn’t usually last long but those times are very much cherished.

Want a second or third cup of coffee? The kids made you tired. The house is a mess? The kids needed Mommy time. Chronically late? Totally the kids. Now, all these things are true, but pre-kids, being late was a big deal. Kids making you late gives you a bit of a free pass. People are generally understanding of a mom running late or a mom’s house messier than normal.
Watching them grow
This one is a bit bittersweet. It is always hard to see your kids grow up as you know time goes by all too quickly. However, it is awesome to watch them be so proud of themselves when they pull themselves up for the first time or finally figure out a difficult math concept or read their word or take their first step. I think this is my favorite part of being a mom. It makes all the hard days and all the work feel so rewarding.
While being a mom can be one of the hardest jobs you’ll ever have, it is also one of the most awesome ones. No other job you’ll ever have will ever be as rewarding. The low points might be pretty low but the high points are really high. What ways do you think being a mom is pretty awesome? Leave a comment and tell me!
