Made it through the hurricane just fine. No damage. Never even lost power. I did lose satellite for a little while but it was the middle of the night. I only knew because when Matt isn't home, I often fall asleep with the TV on. I woke up to some very insane wind and saw the TV had no signal. I've officially be a "storm widow" since 5am Monday. Matt has been out of state helping with the power restoration efforts. I'm really hoping he'll be home by Thanksgiving but given the size of the … [Read more...]
Batten Down the Hatches!
Looks like Hurricane Sandy will be headed this way. If the models keep having it tracking a little more north every day, we will be in a high damage zone. If not, more like medium. Either way, the likelihood of me losing power is pretty high. The liklihood of Matt getting some storm clean-up work is also pretty high. That I am excited for. While I miss him when he is gone, the extra money is great. I had been saying for a couple months now we needed another big Halloween storm like the snow … [Read more...]
Christmas Wishings
It's that time of year where I have to start thinking about what we (Matt, Abby, and I) want for Christmas. We have discovered that it is way easier to give a "wish list" to family rather than have this conversation come Christmas Day."Gee, I hope you really like it. I tried to hard to find something that you would like.""Great."*crinkling paper*"Um, wow! A combination egg beater shoe horn. I.....didn't know they made those."So as I am working through that, I thought I would share with you … [Read more...]
Thrift Store Finds
A couple weeks ago my local thrift store had their $5-Fill-A-Bag day. I've mentioned this before. I have missed the last few but was able to go this time.I got a pair of jeans for me, 2 long-sleeved shirts for me, 2 long-sleeved shirts for Abby, and a winter themed sleep bag for Abby. 6 items for $5. That's roughly 83 cents an item. Awesome! I didn't even completely fill the bag. I didn't take a picture of everything I purchased but here are Abby's new clothes. Hard to see but that light blue … [Read more...]
Recipe Review: French Onion Patty Melts
I was watching The Rachael Ray Show last Thursday and decided her recipe of the day looked amazing.French Onion Patty Melts. Doesn't it look good? So I did what anyone else would do.I promptly Pinned the recipe for later then put it on my menu.It sounds so simple. Caramelize the onions, cook the burgers, assemble sandwiches, then cook just like grilled cheese. Perfect! I can totally do that.Wrong.I have made caramelized onions many times before. This time, quite burnt. So I had to start all … [Read more...]
I Feel the Earth, Move, Under My Feet
So around 7pm last night I was minding my own business, when all of a sudden the house started to shake like someone was on the roof above me...but not quite. I knew it wasn't Matt. He was outside but he was working on an old Coleman lantern outside. When it didn't stop, I was worried he blew himself up. I went running around the corner. He was fine. Just an earthquake. Wait. What? Earthquake? In Maine?!?! Yup. It happens. We have one every few years or so. No reported injuries or … [Read more...]
