Spring in Maine!! Spring has finally hit here in Maine. Some years it seems to take longer than others. Even though I know that it’s coming, I sometimes lose hope that the snow will ever melt and warmer weather will arrive. As I type this, we are even having an unseasonably warm day in the 70s! What a lot of people outside of Maine don’t realize is that Maine looks very different in every part of the state.
Everyone thinks of us as the coast but that is a very, very small part of our state. We live no where near the coast and I actually rarely even see the ocean. For me, this is what early spring in Maine looks like.
Collecting maple sap to make syrup
Lots of late nights, sitting up by the evaporator, making maple syrup. Did you know it takes roughly 40 gallons of sap to equal 1 gallon of syrup? You can read more about our operation here.
Sledding with what’s left of the snow, without coats. π
Milk jug “greenhouses” getting my seeds started for the garden. Frugal and super easy. You can read more about how to garden for very little money here.

Spring in Maine looks very similar to our spring in Alberta (brown and spotted with a bit of snow). Although we don’t have the Maples to tap (yummy)!!!
I love your milk jug greenhouses – awesome!
Thanks so much for sharing (and for linking up to the #SHINEbloghop).
Wishing you a lovely day.

We don’t get anything green until almost summer here. π
Those milk jugs work so great! Plus, free so even better. π

Never been to the state of Maine and one of this days we will head over to explore it. I love the milk jug greenhouse. Never tried growing my seeds that way. Like you, I love that its free! π In Southeast PA March was colder this year and now we are finally seeing some green! Temps today were 70’s but windy.

We’ve had a lot of wind here too. Bonus: It is drying all the mud from the melting snow. π

What beautiful landscape you are on Julie! And maple syrup, what a blessing!!!! We just made a batch of yogurt and there is nothing like maple syrup to swirl over it. Have a lovely week and thank you for sharing on the Art of Home-Making Mondays this week π

We use maple syrup in yogurt too. And a number of other things. I’ve posted some of my recipes, including maple iced tea. We still have a number of gallons left from last year and made 19 gallons this year. We’re actually selling most of those 19 to a place that buys bulk syrup since we don’t need it. If not, that would be a lot of yogurt! π
