Chances are you know someone who is soon to become a mom, either a first time mom or second or third. Or you will in the future. Whatever number baby it is, all new moms appreciate thoughtful gifts. Of course, you can bring an outfit or blanket for the baby but unique gifts for a new mom are even more appreciated. After nine months of feeling like just a baby incubator, most women are ready to feel a little more normal again. Here are some great gift ideas that will be appreciated by all new moms.
Coffee
Yup, I went there. If they are breastfeeding, they do still have to have reduced caffeine but with a crazy sleep schedule, coffee is much appreciated. K-cups are great if they have a Keurig or similar single serve coffee brewer. Starbucks also makes an instant coffee that is amazing called Starbucks Via. The iced coffee ones are particularly amazing.
Snacks
Meals are appreciated, especially if you know the new mom’s favorite meal, but snacks are often over looked. Those first few weeks with a new baby can be a bit of a blur. Easy but healthy snacks can go a long way to helping a new mom stay nourished. Healthy bars or prepared fresh fruit can be a great idea.
Bring a new mom a unique gift that will be sure to make her day! Click To TweetDVDs
Breastfeeding or formula feeding, there are a lot of late night feedings. Boring late night feedings. DVDs of a favorite TV series, especially ones with short episodes, are very handy. When I was nursing my daughter, I watched a lot of Friends in the middle of the night. One episode was basically a nursing session and they were light with not a whole lot of thinking. Perfect for 1am.
Babysitting
If the new mom has older children, offer to take them one morning a week for a couple weeks. Or even just for one day. Any break you can give her will be most welcome. Having a quiet house and the chance to just enjoy the new baby and take a shower can be one of the best gifts you can give a new mom.
Cozy clothes
If you are good friends with the new mom and know her clothing size, a new pair of yoga/comfy pants and a comfy but nice t-shirt are great gifts. Depending on what time of year it is, throwing in a pair of fluffy socks or flip flops can complete the gift. Those first few weeks can be rough on clothing and laundry. The new mom needs to stay comfy as she is recovering but laundry can be difficult to get done. An extra outfit can go a long way. To make the gift even better, throw a load of laundry in for her while you are visiting.
Gift cards
In particular, gift cards that can be used online. It amazing all those things you discover you need, even when you think you were prepared for the new baby. I know for me, it was nursing bras. My first daughter came early and I didn’t have any yet. The ones I was able to find locally were not a good quality and were not very comfortable.
You certainly can still take a baby outfit or bibs but unique gifts for a new mom are even more appreciated. I know that as I am about to become a new mom again, I would appreciate anything on this list.

This list is spot on! I would have loved any of these but especially the snacks and coffee! I also appreciated people who offered to help clean or watch my baby for a little while so I could have a break.

A friend just took my 4yr old yesterday for the whole day. We’d only been from the hospital/NICU for 3.5 days but it was amazing. I think that is my favorite “gift.”
