I don’t know about you but I cannot stand noisy toys that don’t come with toy volume control. Or they do but even the quiet setting is loud. And those obnoxious books that make noise! They are always so loud. Those are always the ones the kids want to use over and over and over too.
When I worked daycare many years ago, we used a simple trick to make all those noisy things quieter.
Packing tape!
It is as simple as it sounds. Just take a piece of packing tape and cover the speaker of the toy that you want to be quieter. If that doesn’t make it quiet enough, you can put a folded piece of paper or paper towel between the speaker and the tape.
I think all of Abby’s toys and books with sound have this done to them. It’s still loud enough that she can hear them but not so loud it overpowers our small living room. Since the packing tape is on plastic, it peels off fairly easily if you need it too but not so easily that Abby can take it off herself. Because of this trick, I no longer groan when Abby receives a noisy toy. Bring them on!

I seriously laughed OUT LOUD when I saw this! First, I think that looks like the VeggieTales manger scene we have that plays music. Our battery died…it hasn’t been replaced. Secondly, this is so stinking EASY I can’t bel;ieve I didn’t think of it! Great post!

It’s actually the Little People nativity. 🙂 We did this all the time when I worked in daycare. It was truly a sanity saver.
