Every month I like the end the month with sharing some of the ways I saved over the month. Some months are more interesting than others. 🙂 Here are some of the ways I saved money in April.
1. Abby’s feet went up a shoe size. While I may have not remembered that I had shoes in the correct size in storage, I did decide to try on her “too small” rain boots. I remembered that they were too big last year as they were in boy sizes. Because of that, that actually do fit this year!
2. I went to Goodwill with a friend and spent $20 on three shirts for me, a little keyboard for Abby, and Catch Phrase. The new version of that keyboard is $19.99 online. I had considered buying it for her for her birthday. Considering I only paid $3 for it at Goodwill, I’m so glad I waited!
3. I couldn’t figure out why my electric bill was so expensive. A friend finally told me that if I was using a certain supplier, their rate was currently double what the standard offer was. So I made a phone call and switched back to the standard offer. It didn’t save me any this month. In fact, I paid $50 more than I could have because I hadn’t noticed the increase. But the phone call will save me that money in the coming months.
4. I went shopping the week after Easter and picked up a package of 48 plastic Easter eggs for 50 cents. We don’t need them for Easter but will be using them for some learning activities.
5. Matt was given an entire jar of spiels for collecting sap (the part that goes into the maple tree). We will have to buy the hooks that go on them to hang the buckets but a large mayo jar of spiels is a big savings compared to having to buy that many.
Bonus: We have been looking and searching for a year for a used Cedar Works swing set. They are high quality brand that lasts a long time. New ones are more than $1000 for the most basic model. Every time we would find one, it would either be too far away, too much work to repair, or was gone before we called about it. We finally found one for $200 when it was originally $1,500. It’s 15 years old but in great shape!
How did you save month this month?

Picked up some printer cartridges at a thrift store for £1.50 and sold them on eBay. After fees and postage, I made £27 profit. Score!

That is seriously awesome!

Great job this month! The swing set is great. It’s a win-win because I am sure someone was very happy to get rid of their swing set and get some cash, and you got a fantastic deal.

The sellers are excited to get some grass in that corner of their yard again. 😉
