1. A large box and some crayons provided hours and hours of entertainment for Abby. We’ve been struggling as she has outgrown most her toys. It is very tempting to go buy new but the box has gained us some weeks!
2. I went into the big town/small city near me to go to Shaw’s as they had a number of great deals. Am I most excited about my $0.89 peanut butter or my $0.38 cereal? Nope! I was pleasantly surprised to see the boneless skinless chicken breasts I was going to pay paying $1.87/lb (awesome price!) was marked down to $1.59/lb. Score! Last day of the sale and they needed it to move. Talk about great timing for me!
3. Since we heat strictly with wood, it can be hard to regulate the temperature in the house. We often will let the house get up to 75 then let the fire go out. Once the fire is out, we turn off the furnace. The saves on electricity as the furnace isn’t running all the time. We have forced hot air so without a fire in the furnace, it would just be blowing cold air, making the house colder anyway.
4. I made my own frozen chicken nuggets this month. Not the standard “chunk up chicken, bread it, and cook it” type either. I actually cooked chicken, pureed it up, formed them into shapes, breaded them, and froze them. It wasn’t as tedious as it sounds. It’s a great alternative to the frozen chicken nuggets you can get at the store but they are just as toddler-friendly.
5. With a couple of $20 off $20 offers and 25 free holiday cards from the Pampers reward program I was able to get 75 photo cards for $7.91, shipped. We still have to pay for the stamps but since we only mail about 50 of those, it shouldn’t be too awful. Last year we did an e-mail card/newsletter but we much prefer to send a real card. There’s just something about getting Christmas cards in the mail. Last year’s finances didn’t allow for that so we’re excited to have the opportunity to do it this year. 🙂
