One of the things I love having a smartphone for that isn’t super obnoxious or time consuming is for saving money. Here are five of my favorite money saving or making apps. (All apps are available for both Android and Apple)
Checkout 51
I think Checkout51 is my absolute favorite. Each week they have a list of offers. There are always a few generic type things like yogurt, bananas, bread, etc. mixed in with the name brand items. You have to wait until $20 but I love getting cash back on things I buy anyway.
Gas Buddy
I also really love Gas Buddy. Gas Buddy allows you to use your phone’s location service to find out the price of gas near you. Or you can enter locations manually to plan out your stops. This app has come in so handy, so many times.
Receipt Hog
Receipt Hog is one I’m still trying out but think will work in the long run. You basically scan in your receipts and you earn points. It does take 1,000 points to earn $5 but again, like Checkout 51, you’re earning on things you were already going to purchase. Use code “vof21921” when you sign up to earn extra spins!
JoAnn Fabric
Joann’s is pretty specific to me. If you are a crafter, you’ll appreciate it too. JoAnn’s app always has coupons. Always. There have been many times that I have found a better coupon with their app than in their printed ones. Or I stopped without planning to. Or I just combine with their print coupons (you can use more than one percent off an item per order as long as you only try to use one per item).
Dunkin Donuts
Dunkin Donuts is also another one that is pretty specific to me or those of you who frequent this restaurant. Like the JoAnn app, there are always coupons. I also love how I can search for a nearby Dunkin Donuts and you can manage your gift card. More than once this summer I had to reload my card through the app as I wasn’t home. (I use my card to purchase instead of cash as I earn 5 points for every dollar I spend. At 200 points, I get a free medium drink.)
**Bonus**
Ibotta has become a new favorite of mine. Checkout 51 isn’t always so great for me anymore since I originally wrote this post. I make a lot more on Ibotta since they have started adding more “any brand” items. You can find out a lot more about Ibotta here.
Nice! I love using Checkout 51 and Receipt Hog! Have you tried Ibotta? Here’s my link: My husband also loves the dunkin app for freebies! Thanks for sharing and linking up with Friday Favorites 🙂
I have tried Ibotta. It isn’t one of my favorites. I find that there isn’t much that I actually purchase. Then when it does have milk, bread, etc. I forget to have them scan my store card (it’s the only thing the store card is used for anymore) so I miss out. lol
Oh love these apps! And some I will be getting soon!
Thanks for linking up with me!

I’ve tried a few others but these seem to be the ones I manage to use most consistently. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
