I'm sure you've all heard the marriage advice "never go to bed angry." I honestly find that to be pretty ridiculous advice. We used to follow it but all it really did was make us tired as we stayed up later to work things out...which made us more angry. It just didn't work. That is why we think it's okay to go to bed angry. Yes, I realize that this sounds crazy. But hear me out. Sometimes when you are trying to figure out a solution to a problem, your emotions are involved. This is … [Read more...]
Debt Payoff Check-In– August 2015
It's been awhile since I've done a debt payoff check-in. Part of that reason is because I don't feel like I have much to tell you. While we have been paying down some debt, we have also taken out a car loan. Back in December 2014 we discovered that to repair Matt's little two door Focus was going to cost us almost twice what the car itself was worth. And that was just to get it to pass inspection. As it was a 2002 and a cheaply build car, that $2000 wasn't going to last long before more repairs … [Read more...]
Why I Don’t Shop at Warehouse Stores (But Think You Should)
I don't shop at warehouse stores. I once had a promotional membership to BJ's Wholesale Club but never paid for a membership when the free one ran out. We just plain didn't use it. I always said that once we had children I'd probably purchase my membership. But here Abby is three years old, out of diapers, and I still haven't purchased my membership. BJ's is 45 minutes away and Sam's Club is 1 hour away. When I go to those towns for shopping I usually only have a couple of hours to shop. … [Read more...]
How to Help a Friend Going Through a Miscarriage
It was a hot, summer Wednesday. I was busy with something I had to get done for the weekend when I got a positive pregnancy test. It was faint so I pulled out the expensive digital test to check. Negative. That was one of the longest afternoons of my life as I didn't know which test was correct. The next day, Thursday, I went to the store and picked up some new tests. Positive. Tested again Friday morning. Still positive. We were ecstatic! We had been trying for over a year. We even told a few … [Read more...]
Upcycling a Ceiling Fan with Spray Paint
Back the summer of 2010 I lost my job. It's a long story that we won't get in to but I had about 6 weeks of nothing to do as I was waiting for school to start up again so I could have a job in the field I preferred. That meant a lot of time at home with no money. That meant a lot of time staring at a house that was sadly in need of updating (still does, really). It was then that I fell in love with spray paint. It's just such a cheap way to update old items. The very first spray painting … [Read more...]
Including Your Toddler in the Kitchen
My daughter has enjoyed helping in the kitchen every since she was old enough to walk and stand on a chair at the counter. Making cookies is a favorite of hers as well as making muffins and sweeping the floor. It's fun to have planned projects and baking days but including your toddler in the kitchen doesn't have to be a big production or stressful. In fact, I think it is best to do day-to-day kitchen tasks with your children, not just the fun stuff. Including your toddler in the kitchen, … [Read more...]
