If you are anything like me, you probably spend a lot of your time trying to save money. You buy used items, you buy the cheaper version of most everything (including food), or you just use something well past when it should have been tossed. But is that always the best choice? Is it always the most frugal choice? I've purchased jeans at Walmart for $18. I've also purchased a better brand at Kohl's, on sale for $25, usually $40. The $18 jeans lasted me about a year, year and a half. The … [Read more...]
When You Hate Being a Parent
I love being a mom. I really do. When my daughter runs across the room and gives me a big hug while saying, "I love you, Mommy," it just makes me melt. I love watching her when she finally succeeds at something she has been trying for awhile. I love hearing her made up little songs. But then there are "those" days. Weeks, even. You know the ones I'm talking about. There are toys everywhere, cereal has been ground in the carpet, you don't even know what is on the sofa, the kid(s) have screamed … [Read more...]

2015 Word of the Year: Peace
This year's word of the year was a struggle for me. Every time I thought I had a word, it got replaced. Then I would get a word that I wasn't 100% comfortable with but I figured, hey, maybe that means God needs to work on me in that area. When I finally thought I landed on a word, a friend mentioned that her word was peace. I suddenly had an "ah ha" moment. I felt at peace. I had been going to choose trust but I just couldn't figure out why God wanted me to choose that. Trusting is easy. … [Read more...]
Take the Time to Take Care of Yourself
There is one thing I learned during the chaos known to most as December 2014. I need to be better at taking the time to take care of myself. It took me the entire month to figure that one out. When I ended up in the doctor's office for a strange issue (that they still don't know what it is) and GI issues that were so severe, they felt like something more, my doctor told me that besides the few medications he was giving me, I was to find a way to de-stress. I needed to rest. I thought I was … [Read more...]
