{Matt doing springboard at Fryeburg Fair last year. This picture was on the front page of the newspaper.}Lumberjack season can be very expensive. Most competitions have an entry fee of $20-35 although we are doing one that is $40. Then there is the gas to get there and food for the day and other random things. Don't even get me started on the cost of the equipment and repairs. It can make for a very tight July and August. Usually by the end of August things are better as all the entry fees … [Read more...]
Sometimes It’s Okay To Give Up
I have to confess something to you all. I have given up on making our bread. It just isn't working for us. We don't eat it quite fast enough so it goes stale and ends up getting wasted. I also feel like I am spending all my time making bread, even with the bread maker. The choice has been made to buy the store brand all natural bread. It's about a dollar more than the artificial dyes and preservatives loaf I used to get. It is also about 3/4 of the size. But I feel like it is worth it to spend a … [Read more...]
Frugal Things I’ve Done This Week
1. Made bread.2. Made yogurt (I follow this method in the slow cooker).3. Purchased peaches at $0.99/lb and froze most of them for adding to yogurt this winter.4. Dried the laundry outside. It's been in the 80s and 90s this week and iced coffee is one of Matt's favorite hot weather treats.Hopefully those will all … [Read more...]
Burning Out on Frugal Living

Or stop sinking money into the Focus when it isn't worth much but we have to because we can't afford a new car yet.I get tired of having to look for deals and coupons. I get tired of not being able … [Read more...]

Shopping Trip….7.13 and Shaw’s Changes….(And Giveaway Reminder!)
There have been a few changes at Shaw's recently. The first is that they got rid of the Shaw's card. You no longer need a loyalty card to get the deals. Having the card never bothered me but I know many people who didn't like it. So good news for them. Now everyone can get the same great sale price. The other big news is that they will now be accepting competitor's coupons. You can find out more about that here. Those coupons will not be doubling but that's not a big deal in my opinion.Saturday … [Read more...]
