Two dollars. That is how much money we had in the checking account this week.No groceries. No gas. No diapers. No cat food. Nothing. It gets worse. We are out of almost everything in this house. Pork. Beef. Trash bags. Bananas. Cat food. Diapers. Eggs. Bread. Cereal. And many other things. Not to mention all the things we are now almost out of.Meals have gotten quite interesting. The cat....not impressed with her food being rationed to last until tomorrow morning when we get a paycheck again. We … [Read more...]
My Grand Adventure or How I Got Eight Stitches
Monday's competition was going so well. Matt had placed in a couple of events which paid for our day. Then disaster. I tried to take the handles off the crosscut saw when the wrench slipped. Drove my hand right into the teeth of the saw. Sliced my pinky finger. Fair first aid got it bandaged up while Matt packed up the van. Thankfully I had family there to take Abby while Matt and I went to the ER.Eight stitches later....I'll spare you the picture as it is kind of gross but I cut right across the … [Read more...]
Whirlwind Weekend
This past weekend we had a three show weekend. Those are always tiring. Thursday: We got as far as Matt's parents' houseĀ about dinner time and got Abby settled there as she wasn't coming with us. We set the alarm for 2:45am and went to bed. The ferry to Martha's Vineyard was to leave at 8:15am and we needed to be there no later than 7:45am. {Us on the ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard} Friday: We left there at about 3:50am. Matt and I, Matt's crosscut/log roll partner, and another friend … [Read more...]
Lumberjack Season Finances
{Matt doing springboard at Fryeburg Fair last year. This picture was on the front page of the newspaper.}Lumberjack season can be very expensive. Most competitions have an entry fee of $20-35 although we are doing one that is $40. Then there is the gas to get there and food for the day and other random things. Don't even get me started on the cost of the equipment and repairs. It can make for a very tight July and August. Usually by the end of August things are better as all the entry fees … [Read more...]
Update on Life Here
Well, I'm alive. Not sure if that is good, bad, or indifferent. It has been one crazy 10-ish days. -We had issues with getting the wood for our competition. It finally came through from Company H, and at half the price of the original quote from Company R. -Unfortunately, Company R has some pretty awful customer service. Let's just say it is a very long story that involves having a quote considered an order and now I will never send that company any business. -Focus needs a wheel … [Read more...]
Busy, Busy Season
Wow. That was a busy weekend. Friday we drove 3 hours to set up a lumberjack show then stayed at my parents' house that night. Saturday was the competition. Great show but tiring. We kept it so fast paced I had to tell my husband to take his time setting up an event so that I had time to run to the bathroom! I even had to have my mom give the baby a bottle as I couldn't nurse and do the scoring at the same time. Not enough time. Then we drove back home that night. Yesterday Matt's … [Read more...]
