We spend a lot of our summers on the road. I'm always amazed when people are shocked when we drive 3 hours one way and then back again in the same day. It's just what we are used to since my husband does lumberjack competitions. Most weekends from July through early October see us driving anywhere from 1-5 hours one way. Summer road trips are just a common thing for us. Because we spend so much time in the car and not at home we have had to find ways to save money. Here are some of those … [Read more...]
Summer Slow Cooker Recipes
With summer here and the temperatures only getting warmer, we are all looking for ways to feed our families without having to turn on the oven. I know that I am desperate for summer recipes. My house is great at holding heat in the winter. Unfortunately, the lack of shade trees makes that true in the summer as well. Using the grill is the obvious choice to keep the house from heating up more. However, we can only have grilled meals so many times. Plus, I like a little more variety than that and … [Read more...]
Moments Like These
This morning I had every intention of sitting down to blog when we got home from grocery shopping. But...plans changed. You see, it was a gorgeous day outside and I had a little girl who was very excited about the fact that we finally had sand to put in her sandbox. Picture: Hyper active chihuahua So instead of sitting inside and writing some post about stockpile storage or the best coupons this week or an update on my word to live this year, I was outside, watching my daughter's pure … [Read more...]
Busy, Busy Season
Wow. That was a busy weekend. Friday we drove 3 hours to set up a lumberjack show then stayed at my parents' house that night. Saturday was the competition. Great show but tiring. We kept it so fast paced I had to tell my husband to take his time setting up an event so that I had time to run to the bathroom! I even had to have my mom give the baby a bottle as I couldn't nurse and do the scoring at the same time. Not enough time. Then we drove back home that night. Yesterday Matt's … [Read more...]
Day 2 of My Heat-Induced Captivity
I hate heat. Truly. I would much rather be cold than hot. My theory is that you can always put more layers on. You can only take so many off. We are on Day 2 of 3 of icky, muggy heat. It is 3pm right now and the outside thermometer says it is 98 degrees outside. It is usually only off by a couple degrees so I bet it is closer to 95. But that is still quite hot. I have the 3 ceiling fans going, one window fan on exhaust in Abby's room, an A/C unit in the living room, and one in our bedroom … [Read more...]
Life? Who Needs a Life?
Summer hasn't even really started yet and it is already full. We will be doing 15 woodsmen/lumberjack competitions this summer. That is twice what we normally do. While this was the plan, it still seems like an awful lot. We will not exist again until after Columbus Day. Any weekend that we don't have a competition, we will be sleeping or working on the house. But most likely sleeping. I don't think we will even have time for camping this summer. Which is sad but oh well. I love lumberjack … [Read more...]
