This past weekend we had a three show weekend. Those are always tiring.
Thursday: We got as far as Matt’s parents’ house about dinner time and got Abby settled there as she wasn’t coming with us. We set the alarm for 2:45am and went to bed. The ferry to Martha’s Vineyard was to leave at 8:15am and we needed to be there no later than 7:45am.

Friday: We left there at about 3:50am. Matt and I, Matt’s crosscut/log roll partner, and another friend who competes were all in the van for the trip. Then in the back we had all our gear plus that of two other competitors who walked on to the ferry instead of driving, and all our stuff for the weekend. Loaded van for sure.
No problems with the ferry. Spent the day hanging out, some training, helping get ready for the competition the next day. Generally a fairly easy day. Which was great since we had to get up so early.
Saturday: The first competition. First time we have tried to split the day into two shows instead of one long one. Went fairly well. There are definitely some kinks to work out but that was expected. I helped out when I could then ended up finishing up the scoring as the people scoring had to leave by 4pm. We didn’t finish up until about 6pm. We barely had time to pack up to catch our ferry.
We got to the ferry terminal and found out all the info we had was wrong and we needed to go to the other terminal. We did make it with a little time to spare but not much. We stopped for dinner with friends and then got to our hotel about 10:45pm.
Matt did very well that day. Placed in four events. Beat his personal best in springboard and in the underhand. Won the underhand even!
Sunday: Competition number two, also in Massachusetts. Went very well. I helped out a little with running times and scoring when the runner and scorer needed to compete. Mostly was able to hang out and just enjoy the show. It has been awhile since I have not had to take care of Abby at a competition or do all the scoring or both. It was so nice.
Dinner was frustrating as it took two hours from the time we sat down until the time we left. Slowest service ever. We got back to Matt’s parents’ house just before 11pm. We stayed there that night.
Matt did very well again. He broke his personal best in the springboard and the underhand again and placed second in both events and placed in a few other events.
Monday: We didn’t have to get up very early so that was nice. Got some things put together for that day’s competition which we helped to run. Abby was very happy to see us again. She just wanted to be held by one of us for about an hour after she got up.
Competition went fairly well. We were all tired and Matt was busy helping get things set up so he didn’t place very well. I did all the scoring so Matt’s parents and aunt came up to watch Abby. That was very helpful.
Matt was exhausted so we stopped for some fast food on the way home and got home about 9:30pm.
Overall, it was a great weekend and Matt did such a great job. I am so proud of him.
We had so much fun. It was great spending time with friends. I love that about this sport. You may compete against each other but you are also friends. It was so great to get a baby free weekend too. I get very few days without Abby so it is always nice to get a little break from being Mommy.

Aw, I’m disappointed that you didn’t mention that you also got to see ME at the Union Fair on Monday! I had a super time visiting with you, playing with Abby, and watching Matt compete. It was fun to see you as a family and also doing something you enjoy, even though you were busy and tired. Thanks for letting me spend the day with you!
