This past Friday I did something that is making me so annoyed at myself. I forgot to check if I had any hand-me-down shoes in the next size up for Abby. You see, as I was putting on her sneakers to go grocery shopping, I realized her shoes were too small. So we just picked up a pair of sneakers and a pair of dress shoes at Walmart while we were there. She had some birthday money to spend anyway Then the next day I had to spend some time in our basement. Our basement is the bane of my … [Read more...]
Ways I Saved- March
At the end of every month I like to share with you some ways that I saved money and lived frugally over that month. Sometimes those ways are with coupons or sales, sometimes it's from not shopping, sometimes it's by using our garden. Every month is a little different. Here are some money saving things I did this March. 1- Matt needed new snowshoes for collecting sap. We purchased a pair that were on sale for $99 (saved $40), used up a gift card ($47), and received a $10 bonus gift card for … [Read more...]
Princess Birthday Party on a Budget
Last year, Abby was really into Curious George so we had a Curious George themed birthday party. This year, while still likes that trouble causing monkey, she is very into princess things. So far, even though we've kept things mostly frugal, we've been able to go more "all out" on birthday parties due to extra income in March. This year we did not get that extra income. That combined with my surgery recovery made for a much simpler birthday party. However, I tend to think birthdays should be … [Read more...]
Frugal Date Night: Go Thrifting!
Back in college when we were still dating, Matt and I would try to go out on a date about once a month. We saw each other every day as we lived in the same dorm building but going on an actual date was tough. We were starving college students after all. It was all about the frugal date night. We did a lot of free or cheap things like sub sandwiches at a local park (when it was warm enough) or go to a favorite restaurant, just for dessert. One of our favorite things to do was to go to Goodwill. … [Read more...]
Frugal Easter Ideas
We don't tend to think of Easter as being an expensive holiday. We tend to only really think about Christmas as a big money spending holiday. But Easter can be. Between dying eggs, fillers for plastic eggs for Easter egg hunts, and Easter baskets. Not to mention Easter dinners. We all know that Easter isn't all about egg hunts and chocolate bunnies. We know that Easter is about celebrating the fact that Jesus is Lord. It's about remembering what He did for us. However, especially those of us … [Read more...]
“Thrifting” Within the Family
It's fairly well known that I enjoy thrifting. I really love wandering around Goodwill and finding the perfect shirt or kitchen item. Same goes for yard sales when I actually have time to get to them. There is just something fun for me about unearthing treasures as an affordable price. I love finding that one item that no one else seems to care about but will work perfectly for me. For less than $10, of course. ;) Even better than finding a great deal at a thrift store is being able to get … [Read more...]
