Do you have that one friend that always manages to find the best deals? They seem to find name brand items for a fraction of the price. Or they can get a month’s worth of groceries for what you would spend for a week. You wonder just how do they do it! Is there is a special secret? Or maybe they’re just super lucky. Honestly, it’s a little bit of both.
Just how do you find the best deals on everything? With these tips, you’ll be scoring deals in no time!
Scan Facebook groups
Set aside about 30 minutes each week to scan through local buy/swap/sell groups on Facebook. To make better use of your time, search for items that you are specifically looking for. If you are more open to just finding deals on things you may want or need, just read through all the most recent sale posts. You’d be amazed at what you might find. Yes, a lot of it may be junk, but you may also score a nice coffee table for $15 or a bag of kid clothes for $10.
The same can be true for Craigslist. It’s just harder there as it isn’t as local as most Facebook groups. Most Facebook groups will be for your area whereas Craigslist is for the whole state most the time. Be careful to not join too many groups or else you can spend all your time searching and spend too much money on things you may not need.
Follow deal blogs/Facebook pages
This is another good way for finding amazing deals on items. A lot of deal bloggers will share great sales at places like Kohls or Groupon or Zulily. The great thing is: they have done the work for you. You don’t have to spend tons of time on multiple websites, looking for deals. I like following deal bloggers on Facebook so the deals just pop up in my newsfeed. Another great option is to sign up for their newsletter lists. Many of them sent out one email a day with the best deals.
If these options are too tempting for you to spend too much money, just go straight to the blog a couple times a week and look through the recent posts.
Frequent your local thrift stores
How often do you compliment a friend on her outfit and she tells you she got it at Goodwill? Then you’re wondering how she managed that because you never find anything that great there. I used to have a friend who found the absolute best things at Goodwill. She’d find great brand name jeans in excellent condition for $3. Or she’d find a dress with the tags still on for $8. It was crazy! Her trick? She was at Goodwill once a week or so. She would change up the days she went so she could hit up different color barb days. Some weeks she wouldn’t find much, other weeks she would hit the mother load of amazing deals.
You may not have that kind of time or live that close to a thrift store. But if you do, this is a great way of finding the best deals. Just be careful you are only buying the really good deals and only buying the things you or your family need. (You can also turn a trip to the thrift store into a super fun date!)
Follow local bloggers
This is how you are going to save money on your grocery bill. Find a local blogger who blogs about the deals at your local grocery store chains. They will often do a weekly match up of the sales combined with coupons so you know where to find the coupons and how much you are going to save. Another great option is to find a Facebook group based around shopping at your local grocery chain. Those other shoppers can be very helpful.
Also, consider following bloggers or joining groups that talk about drug store match ups. If you play the drug store game, you can often find amazing deals. (Full disclosure: I do not play the drug store game. We only have a Rite Aid locally and I have had issues with our local store.)
With all of these, it is important to only spend the money you have on the items you need. If you have the spare money and find something you really want at a great price, go for it! Just don’t get so caught up in the “find the best deals” game that you buy things you don’t really need. It’s better to save your money for the things that will be used and are necessary, even if you spend a little extra on them.
