Tell me if this sounds familiar. You get home from the grocery store only to discover that you already had mustard, Italian dressing, mayonnaise, or corn meal. Well, now you have extra that you don’t really need as you didn’t pay at stock up price. Or how about this one? You go to get one of those same products from the pantry only to discover that they expired…six months ago. It is one of those experiences that always remind me of a simple money saving tip: rotate product.
Rotate Product
What exactly is rotating product? Exactly what it sounds like! Once a month or even once a week, go through your pantry and make sure nothing has expired. Make sure the oldest item (if you have more of one of the same thing) is in the front. This goes for meat in your freezer as well. With a stock up trip, be sure to put the newest items in the back, not just shoved in the pantry or stuck in the front.
I think sometimes we just get tired. We are tired from the grocery shopping so we take the easy way out and just put things away without thinking. We are ready to move on to the next thing. That leads to product getting forgotten about or lost in the deep, dark recesses of the pantry. That, in turn, leads to product expiring before we can use it or buying something we already have.
Follow this simple tip to save tons of money! Click To TweetYes, rotating product does closely connect to organizing to save money. You are less likely to waste money when you know what you have and keep it set up with the soonest to expire in the front. We waste that money on buying when we don’t need the item/it isn’t as a stock up price or on throwing out items that expired before even being opened. I remember one time I had to throw out two tubs of shortening. Both had gone bad before even being used. All because I didn’t rotate my product and keep track of what I had.
It really is a most simple money saving tip but it is one that will save you both money and frustration. Rotate your products!
