Today is my first ever Thrifty Thursday post. Some weeks will be kitchen or cleaning tips. Other weeks will be frugal recipes. And some weeks, like this one, will be about shopping.
This week is about my grocery trip to Shaw’s. I do my main shopping at Hannaford but buy things at Shaw’s when they are on sale and I have coupons. I can often get things cheaper there that way that I can at Wal-mart or Hannaford with their regular prices or sales prices.
This is what I bought this week:
Or without the impulsive, but needed, oil:
Value– $32.79
Spent– $13.70
I don’t normally impulsive buy things but the olive oil was marked down $7 and I was almost out at home. A big can like that will last me 9-10 months.
Everything I bought was on sale. Then I had coupons for everything except for the barbecue sauce and olive oil. I had:
$1/1 Cabot cheese product
$1/2 8oz. Cabot cheese products
$1/1 Light ‘n Fit yogurt 4-pack
$1/1 Kashi granola bars
$1/1 Hidden Valley Ranch (not pictured because I forgot I bought that too)
Then I had a few Shaw’s store coupons:
$1 off a granola bar purchase
$1 off two juices
$1.50 off 4 yogurt cups
4 Double your $1 coupons
I ended up only paying $0.50 for all four of the loose yogurt cups. The first three Shaw’s coupons printed again when I was at the checkout. I have been making my own yogurt but it is a day and half project. So nice to have back-up when I don’t have time.
So there you have it. A little planning an paying attention and I saved almost more than I spend. If I hadn’t needed to olive oil, I would have saved more than I spend. I do buy store brand for most things but sometimes I can get national brand cheaper.

That’s exciting. I’m going to a couponing class on Thursday and am very excited to start saving more money!

Have fun! You’ll have to tell me about the class.
