My pastor shared a status on Facebook recently that basically said, are we trying to be good and cause others to be good instead of letting Christ create the transformation in us. Which is ironic as I had just been thinking about something similar before I read that. Summers/early fall are tough on my Christian walk. I am not at church, I'm surrounded by worldliness, my language goes down hill, my attitude goes down hill. In short, it's messy. I love lumberjack season and I love my "summer … [Read more...]
Grace….The Lessons Keep Going
I took one of those fun quizzes online the other day. You know, one of those "What Color Are You" or "What TV Character Are You" type ones. This one was a "What Disney Quote Should Be Your Life Motto" one. I'm not big on Disney but I took it anyway out of curiosity (and because I was avoiding actual work). This is what I got: This is one of the few times I have agreed with a quiz result. Not that my life has been crazy full of adversity. I have a roof over my head, clean water, no … [Read more...]
Lessons from the Singing Vegetables
(I wrote this months ago and never got around to posting it. Months later and it is still true.) {source} This afternoon I was playing Abby's Veggie Tales Sunday School Songs cd for her. She loves those singing vegetables. Totally rocking out to Bob and Larry, including choreography and harmony. I am not ashamed to admit that. We were having a grand time. Then we settled down as I had some dishes that needed washing but I still kept the cd on for Abby. Just listening I was struck by … [Read more...]
Grace: An Update
When I decided that I was being led to choose "Grace" as my word of the year, I had no idea how much it would get tested in the first few months of 2014. I guess God had a reason for pushing this word on me. He knew I was going to be thrown into circumstances where I was going to need to have and show grace.I'm also learning how closely connected grace is with mercy and forgiveness. They are so closely connected, it almost feels like they are all the same thing. I feel like we have been through … [Read more...]
When Being a Stay at Home Mom is Hard
Alright, all you stay at home moms out there. How many of you dare not ever complain or vent about a hard day or week or season because if you do, you just hear back, "Well, you wanted to be a stay at home mom. That was your choice"? Hearing that is always so frustrating. It almost makes you feel guilty for having a rough day because you are doing what you always dreamed. However, no matter how much you love your job, whatever it may be, it isn't always easy. It isn't always fun. We all have … [Read more...]
2014 Word to Live
It is so hard to be a parent. It really is. I love my daughter and want to have more children. But I understand all those people who choose to remain child-free. I get it. Today was so rough, I had to leave Abby in the living room and go to the hallway and give myself a timeout. Then she followed me and sat in her time out spot and waited for me. It was really cute and completely helped my attitude. It was one of those moments that makes parenting worthwhile. Then we have those moments where … [Read more...]
