I'm really struggling with being content right now. There are so many things that I would like to upgrade. So much of our frugal life is making do with what we have. Right now I am really wanting: an iPhone a Macbook a new desk All nice tools to have. But not necessary. I have a phone. It may freeze and I don't like it, but I own it. I have a laptop. It is broken right now but I own it and it makes do. I have a desk. It really doesn't work for what I need but it is better than the … [Read more...]
Ways I Saved in September
1. I used my Fuel Rewards Network card to fuel up my van. It only saves 3 cents per gallon for me right now but all savings are good savings! 2. I packed our lunches for competition days. It can be a lot work to get everything ready ahead of time but considering an average fair food meal is about $10, I'm saving us close to $20 per competition. Since we had seven competitions this month, that is just under $140! 3. I was able to use some coupons combined with a sale to get six boxes of … [Read more...]
Why I Don’t Use a Cash Envelope System
If you spend any time at all reading frugal or debt-free blogs, you will know most of them encourage the use of a cash envelope system. The concept is simple. You have different envelopes for your different non-big bill expenses. So you would have one for groceries, clothes, eating out, etc. You either put the money budgeted for the month or for the week into their respective envelopes. When the cash is gone in one envelope, it is gone until the next week/month. You can't borrow from other … [Read more...]
Grace….The Lessons Keep Going
I took one of those fun quizzes online the other day. You know, one of those "What Color Are You" or "What TV Character Are You" type ones. This one was a "What Disney Quote Should Be Your Life Motto" one. I'm not big on Disney but I took it anyway out of curiosity (and because I was avoiding actual work). This is what I got: This is one of the few times I have agreed with a quiz result. Not that my life has been crazy full of adversity. I have a roof over my head, clean water, no … [Read more...]
5 Things You Should Know About Coupon Clipping Services
If you're like me, you always thought it was odd to order coupons online through coupon clipping services. I mean, how are you actually saving money if you are spending money on the coupons? Then I realized. I spend money on a Sunday paper when there are good coupons. How is that any different? So I took the plunge. I ordered my first coupons just over a month ago. Then I did it the next week. Then off and on since then. Here is what I have discovered. 1- It is actually cheaper to … [Read more...]
Learning to Be a “Yes Mom”
A couple of weeks back (okay, make that almost a month ago) I posted this on the Logger's Wife Facebook page: This morning I decided to be a "yes mom" and let Abby play in the soaking wet mess known as her sandbox. The intense downpours we had yesterday destroyed the cover I made for it and the sand was so soaked, there were standing puddles. My first instinct was to tell her to let it dry out a little but then I decided, not a big deal to play in the mud. I could always just rinse her … [Read more...]
