This is a tough one for me. I just missed out on a great deal on butter and chicken. Excellent deal even. $1.79/lb for chicken and a pound of butter for $1.67. But to get these deals I would have had to drive the 40 minutes into the "big city." I'm really sad that I missed out on these deals but it just wasn't in the budget this week. If I am going to drive that far I want to stock up on many things, go to a few stores, etc. I like to make that trip worth the drive. Since that trip just wasn't … [Read more...]
Integrity, Illness, and Insane Weekends
I hadn't even realized it had been twelve days since I last posted. Wow, life has been so crazy in those twelve days. Well, longer than that. The end of lumberjack season is always a bit crazy.I am currently sick. Everything hurts....except my nose. My head throbs, my ears are stuffy, my lungs hurt, my body aches, I'm run down, and my throat is sore. I'm leaning flu not cold at this point in time. For the first time ever, I sent Matt and Abby to church without me yesterday and I stayed home to … [Read more...]
Time to Start Christmas Gift Shopping and Creating
For our Christmas gift budget, I work really hard to spend no more than $10/person without it seeming cheap and not thoughtful. Sometimes I buy a more expensive item that is on clearance for the budgeted price. We do splurge a little on each other but we don't tend to buy each other birthday gifts, we don't do anniversary gifts, and we don't do anything for Valentine's Day. Christmas is the one time of year we buy gifts for each other so we are allowed to splurge a little. Often we make our … [Read more...]
Fitness Challenge and Word of the Year
Remember that word of the year thing? My word is determination. I broke it down to financially, materially, and physically. I'm doing fairly well with the first two. That last one....not so much. I have officially lost zero pounds. Oh, I lost some while still nursing Abby but then gained it back after she weaned. Matt and I have even talked about it recently. It isn't even so much a looks thing (although I would love to be hot for my husband). I have some family medical history that … [Read more...]
My Grand Adventure or How I Got Eight Stitches
Monday's competition was going so well. Matt had placed in a couple of events which paid for our day. Then disaster. I tried to take the handles off the crosscut saw when the wrench slipped. Drove my hand right into the teeth of the saw. Sliced my pinky finger. Fair first aid got it bandaged up while Matt packed up the van. Thankfully I had family there to take Abby while Matt and I went to the ER.Eight stitches later....I'll spare you the picture as it is kind of gross but I cut right across the … [Read more...]
Whirlwind Weekend
This past weekend we had a three show weekend. Those are always tiring. Thursday: We got as far as Matt's parents' houseĀ about dinner time and got Abby settled there as she wasn't coming with us. We set the alarm for 2:45am and went to bed. The ferry to Martha's Vineyard was to leave at 8:15am and we needed to be there no later than 7:45am. {Us on the ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard} Friday: We left there at about 3:50am. Matt and I, Matt's crosscut/log roll partner, and another friend … [Read more...]
